Maidstone triumphed in this year's Len Hammond Memorial Match, winning 3-2. The annual match, contested between Snodland and Maidstone in honour of Len's contribution to both clubs, was held at the cricket pavilion on 25 August.

After suffering heavy defeats in 2009 and 2010, the 2011 match was a much closer affair. Despite being heavily out-graded on all of the five boards, George, David Lettington, Pete and Neil all came away with draws, but Maidstone clinched the match with a win on board 1, where Matt Bunn lost to Ian Watson.
Len was a longstanding member of both Snodland and Maidstone chess clubs. He joined Snodland shortly after we formed in 2005 and was a solid supporter of the club in those early days.
